Walking with Evan Grant at Bristol Glen

New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services currently sponsors a “Live Long, Live Well Statewide Walking Program for Adults 50+” that promotes physical activity. Evan Grant, aspiring doctor and Bristol Glen volunteer, has facilitated Bristol Glen’s participation since July 2007. He walks with residents in groups or individually every Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m., faithfully motivating and providing words and notes of encouragement. Residents chart their progress on their own or through Evan who moves each resident’s “sneaker” along on a tote board posted in our rotunda area.
Approximately 25 residents have completed the three-month challenge and their names have been submitted to the NJDOHSS for recognition certificates. Upon receipt, Evan will present these certificates to participating residents at a future Bristol Glen Residents’ Council Meeting.
When asked what he most enjoyed about volunteering at Bristol Glen, Evan responded, “The staff is extremely cooperative and helpful. Their encouragement really helps me accomplish the things I hope to accomplish. Their energy and “open-arms” attitude is contagious, and helps to establish an enjoyable working environment. The personality of the residents and staff keeps me coming back and makes me want to contribute to the Bristol Glen community.”
