Mid-Winter Games at Francis Asbury Manor

According to Wikipedia, a bracket is “the diagrammatic representation of the series of games played during a tournament, named as such because it appears to be a large number of interconnected brackets.” Indeed, this was the case at Francis Asbury Manor’s mid-winter shuffleboard bracket tournament.

It proved therapeutic in bringing staff and residents together for exercise and camaraderie and raising competitive spirits. Just days after record-level snow and for many, confinement to indoor activity, staff organized and launched the tournament. The enthusiastic response fostered the formation of 14 teams, representing both residents and staff.

They met in the Main Lounge in front of a large audience. After many rounds and close game scores, the final playoff ensued. Housekeeper Rich Watson and Toni Foster, housekeeping director, challenged Andrew Ridella, marketing director, and Vic Shibla, maintenance director. Watson and Foster prevailed during much applause and calls for future competitions, perhaps even Wii bowling.
