History is Alive
Question: What happens when you bring together a group of curious, talkative 5th grade students who have just studied World War II, the Holocaust and Europe with veterans? Answer: History comes alive, imaginations soar and a lot of discussion ensues!
With the wonder of youth, children from the Wantage School explored and read about WWII, the experiences of US troops and allied forces, world leadership, and how wartime affected people’s lives here and abroad. Both men and women belonging to Bristol Glen’s Veterans Group revealed their personal war experiences to about 50 students. The recollections took listeners to a great number of faraway places in Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.
Realizing the value of this firsthand earning opportunity, the students asked many questions and listened attentively. In appreciation for sharing their time and stories, the students baked war cakes and gave them to the veterans.
